Classroom Support (3 hr)
Intake / Class Support / Follow up Doing hard things, together!
Service Description
Attending and readjusting to school following a new diagnosis, an extended absence, a hospitalization, a surgery, a treatment, a trauma, or the death of a loved one is often scary and difficult for children. They may not know what to say or be afraid of what others are thinking. These same feelings and uncertainties are often a part of classmates’ and even teachers’ experiences. Children with noticeable body changes due to illness or trauma and children who have been living with a disability are often subject to questions, stares, and unkind comments from their peers. Helping all children process these challenges in a safe space can help to increase understanding, clarify misconceptions, and promote a sense of empathy. Transitions are scary. Talking about it and planning leads to success! This package is individually designed to meet your child's needs and is typically broken into 3 sessions of 1 hour each. All sessions are virtual. Session 1: Intake Assessment and Planning Session Session 2: Classroom Support Session 3: Follow Up After booking this service and after a schedule is determined in the 1st session - we will follow up to book sessions 2 and 3. The first session will include a history, assessment, and goal setting in private with the parent, child and teacher. Keep in mind there is added time for the child life specialist to coordinate with school staff and plan accordingly. This package also includes any resource development and activity supplies needed for the class session and follow up. Please note, due to the nature of sharing information to best support the child and their classmates, a release of information (provided by Coping Connection, LLC) must be completed by all parents of participating students. In addition, prior to the classroom session, a letter will be provided to the parents of classmates to inform and to provide helpful resources relevant to the classroom support session. Please complete the Intake Assessment Form prior to booking this service. An Intake Assessment Session is required for all new patients and clients seeking private services, certain group services, and classroom support. Please utilize the Contact Form and 15 minute Free Consult if you have general questions about this service.
